Kolie Shaw

Dear Reader,

Hello and greetings. My name is Kolie Shaw.

I am a director, creator, performer, activist, and life-long learner.

I welcome you.

Directing: Since directing my first show The Baloney, The Pickle, The Zombie, and Other Things I Hide from My Mother by Bradley Walton during my senior year at Saint Paul Conservatory for the Performing Artist, I have gone on to graduate from North Dakota State University with my BFA in performance and an emphasis in directing. Throughout my undergrad I directed NDSU's mainstage production of She Kills Monsters: Virtual Realms by Qui Nguyen, and Primal a piece completely devised by myself and a group of performer/designers; Assistant directed Annie with director Ryan Scoble and Tartuffe with Chelsea Pace; And worked with Newfangled Theatre Company, a student ran company, all four years of my undergrad and produced/directed A Show About You by Molly Vines, and The Mysterious Robber by Catherine Manstrom.

Creator: Everybody is a creator. The most amazing thing about humans is that we create everything twice: first in our minds, and then in the world (Robin Sharma). A passion to consciously create impactful work started during my time at Saint Paul Conservatory for the Preforming Artist. Devising a completely physicalized rendition of Peer Gynt by Hendrik Ibsen, directed by Ryan Underbakke changed how I make theatre.

I am also an activist who believes in the importance of education and the ripple effect communication mixed with empathy can have and the importance of feeling uncomfortable when listening to/learning from others. I believe the best way to grow as a society is by Listening and following actions lead by peace driven minority communities, naming the unjust acts from our establishment towards BIPOC and LGBTQIA2S+ groups, calling out white supremacy, and making a constant effort to discuss the ways in which our culture must change.
